Originally from Quebec City, Canada, Louis-Xavier Barrette lived abroad in Japan and Italy before completing high school in the United States. Playing music throughout his childhood, Louis was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music and began a B.A. in classical guitar performance in 2012. As his interests in engineering and medicine grew, Louis transferred to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and completed a B.S. in Chemical and Biological Engineering.
Undergraduate research in metabolic engineering and antibody design culminated in Louis interning at Genentech in South San Francisco, working on biophysical analytic techniques for antibody stability measurement and characterization. More recently, projects of interest have been focused on haptic-based surgical simulator development. Now a medical student at Penn, Louis is looking to integrate interests in engineering, computer science, and surgery.
