Dr. Harvey Rubin is Professor of Medicine and Computer and Information Science here at Penn. Dr. Rubin is the founder and Executive Director of Energize the Chain (EtC), an initiative that aims to create an economically and technologically sustainable energy infrastructure for the effective transportation and storage of vaccines in low and middle-income countries. EtC establishes public-private partnerships to harness the energy potential of telecommunication towers to achieve this infrastructure. EtC currently operates in Zimbabwe and Ghana, and is expanding to other countries beyond Sub-Saharan Africa, including India. Dr. Rubin completed his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and MD at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and has published more than 90 peer-reviewed papers and chapters on topics ranging from basic biology of infectious disease to mathematical modeling to health care delivery and innovations.
